"Blowing the Hatch" Update with Preview Images

Posted by admin on March 3, 2011

Hello,

I'm finishing up the final work and preparing to head to Oakland tomorrow to hang "Blowing the Hatch" at Rowan Morrison, my first and everyone's last show at this wonderful place. It's a huge honor to be chosen for the gallery's closing exhibition. Many thanks to longtime friends and owners, Pete and Narangkar Glover, for the hard, dedicated work they've done providing Oakland with a great gallery for 5 years.  Please join us to blow this joint.  Preview some works from the show after the jump.

Many Thanks,

Rob Sato

For the past 5 years we have had the privilege of working with some of our favorite artists to create art exhibitions and publications. We are very proud that we have been able to participate in the development of so many incredible art careers, and to assist in the growth of our neighborhood and city. It seems fitting that for the final solo exhibition at Rowan Morrison gallery we present our long time friend Rob Sato.

Following Rob's show we will end our exhibition programming at Rowan Morrison, but will continue to manufacture and sell select art publications through our online web store. We plan to utilize the gallery storefront as studio space for our own art practices, with occasional open studios and special events. The rabbit sign will stay.

We are looking forward to this new creative chapter of our lives, whil looking back on Rowan Morrison with pride and a great sense of accomplishment.

Please join us on Saturday, March 5th for the opening reception of Rob Sato's solo exhibition, Blowing the Hatch, as well as to celebrate 5 years of excellent friends and exceptional art.

Rowan Morrison to Rob Sato:
What are you planning on for your show?

Rob Sato to Rowan Morrison:
This will be a drawing heavy show.  Recently, I’ve been compelled to draw more than paint, and have been enjoying the simple pleasures of graphite on paper.  It has been an interesting period of getting back to basics and at the same time trying things I’ve never done before.  Currently, all preparations are a wild-eyed blur, so it is difficult to gauge what the show will consist of, but several graphite drawings can be expected, at least one large watercolor, and the last installments of my “Slideshow” series.  There will be no less than that, maybe more, and as much as I can get in there. Also, there will be one large piece dedicated to the gallery that was never missing. There’s a hare in the grave and Rowan Morrison will not die.

Rob Sato was born and raised in Sacramento, California, and received his BFA in illustration from California College of Arts and Crafts. He is the recipient of the prestigious Xeric Grant, with which he published his graphic novel Burying Sandwiches. Sato is largely known for his epic watercolors, and has been featured in Juxtapoz, Giant Robot and High Fructose Magazine.
